The city of Klamath Falls, Oregon, situated between the Cascade mountains and the high desert of Eastern Oregon, was one of the inspirations for the fictional town of Odyssey in Focus on the Family's radio drama for kids, "Adventures in Odyssey." Just over the border from California, Klamath Falls, with 200+ days of sunshine a year, is "Oregon's City of Sunshine" and the gateway to Crater Lake National Park.
Klamath Falls is surrounded by many beautiful places to ski, hike, and camp. Our church logo reflects the view from the front (south-facing) windows of our building. Although we are located only a few blocks away from major commercial and residential areas of our town, we have a breath-taking view of the nature that surrounds us. Lake Ewana, the headwaters of the Klamath River, is visible from our front door, as is Mount Shasta in the Cascades of Northern California.
One of our church's favorite long-standing traditions is our annual Labor Day Campout in Keno, Oregon. This informal weekend is mostly a chance for families to fellowship together over tablegames, horseshoes, or watersports, with little planned programming. On Sunday of Labor Day weekend we have an outdoor worship service at the campground, a baptism service at the Klamath River, and an all-church potluck picnic. (Services are also conducted at our facility in town.)
Klamath Falls is the county seat for Klamath County and a commercial center for the surrounding rural areas. Long a timber community, the city has survived logging cutbacks in the 1980s and 1990s and has a diversified economy including tourism and service industries, high-technology companies, and agri- and aquaculture.
The members of our church are active in many facets of our community's life, including local government, law enforcement, our fine schools (public and private), a strong community theater and performing arts program, and many other local industries and groups.
During the Christmas holiday season each year UEFC sponsors two major events as gifts to our community. The first is a Dinner Theater production performed during an early weekend in December. The second is a candlelight service on Christmas Eve, designed to bring a time for peace and reflection during the busy holiday rush. We hope that our guests at these events find them enjoyable and encouraging.
Another way we seek to minister to our community at large is through our membership in the Klamath Evangelical Alliance. This network of local churches is committed to cooperation, not competition, for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
