Small Groups

Two kinds of groups form the heart of our small group ministry: Basic Discipleship Groups and Branch Groups. In order to cultivate the atmosphere of trust necessary for genuine intimacy and accountability, these groups are closed -- new members or visitors are not permitted once the group has been established. New groups are formed in the fall and at additional points during the year as necessary.

Basic Discipleship Group: A BDG is a group of about a dozen adults who meet weekly to engage and encourage one another in intentional growth-through Bible study, guided activities, and supportive relationships. These groups are open to Christian adults who are committed to following Jesus as the Lord of their lives, and who want to experience significant growth in their relationship with him. Distinctive features include: Interactive Bible study through a "core curriculum" covering the essentials of discipleship; mutually supportive relationships cultivated through life-sharing and prayer; homework that cultivates the development of spiritual disciplines; encouragement from and accountability to the other members of the group.

We encourage all new participants to begin with a BDG, even if they are not new to the Christian faith, so that members of Branch Groups will all have been through the same core curriculum. While some of the material may turn out to be review for more advanced disciples, no one ever gets "beyond" the need to think deeply about the Lordship of Christ, self-denial, spiritual priorities, stewardship, service, sharing our faith, and the like. More mature participants enable the group interaction to take place at a deeper level and gives the opportunity for "older" disciples to encourage "younger" disciples on the pathway of faith.

Branch Groups: Graduates of the Basic Discipleship Groups continue their small group experience in these on-going discipleship groups. Moving beyond the essentials, each group charts it own course in pursuing growth in Christian character and ministry skills.

OTHER SMALL GROUPS are offered by our church for individuals in particular life situations or for those who want to begin small group involvement at a time between the launches of new BDGs. Most of these groups are open to new members at any time.

All-Comers Group: (7 p.m. Wednesdays at the church)This weekly Bible study is designed for those who want to enjoy a small group experience in-between those times when Discipleship Groups are being started. It is a good opportunity for weekly Bible study and fellowship and provides a smooth transition into a more long-term group.

College Group: (7 p.m. Sundays at the church) A Bible study designed for and led by college-age adults. In addition to Bible study and interaction, college group meetings often include informal worship and fellowship. All are welcome.

OTHER SMALL GROUPS are offered by our church for individuals in particular life situations or for those who want to begin small group involvement at a time between the launches of new BDGs. Most of these groups are open to new members at any time. These are listed weekly in the Sunday morning bulletin – “Church Calendar.”

In addition to the groups defined by size, our church offers ministry programs designed specifically for the men and women of our congregation.
